Summary

Energy efficiency and renewable energies together constitute a major change factor in the transition towards sustainable energy. In the recent IEA scenarios these make up more than two-thirds of the required measures to reach the Paris Climate Agreement goals. This webinar will discuss the relation of local renewable energy production and energy efficiency measures. First part will discuss the integration of these two in the built and urban context (where most of the energy is used). We’ll show how energy efficiency, in particular DSM, together with renewable energy and Power-to-X (X=heat, mobility, gas, etc.) measures could provide mainstream energy solutions in large scale The second part of the talk will discuss the market side of the integration, in particular adoption and market take up of these new alternatives.

Dr. Peter D. Lund is Professor in Advanced Energy Systems at Aalto University, Finland, where he chairs the Multidisciplinary Energy Science Initiative. He has several visiting positions abroad, among others in China and Germany. He has 35+ years experience in energy technologies and systems, with interest in sustainable energy policies. His current research includes energy innovations, system integration, and transitions. Dr. Lund is active in senior roles with European Union initiatives in energy: he chaired the Advisory Group Energy of European Commission 2002-06 and chairs the Energy Steering Panel of European Academies Science Advisory Council (EASAC). He has served in advisory role for many energy programmes and evaluations worldwide, incl. IEA. He is Editor for Interdisciplinary Reviews: Energy and Environment, and Energy Research (Wiley). He has received the Environmental Award, Fortum and Jinling Prizes, among others. He has given numerous invited talks and written 500+ research papers on energy.
